Happy Labor Day! Well, the warm days of Summer have arrived! While the warmth is welcomed, it does not necessarily put one in the mindset for the holidays. I thought I would share a collection of Dresden ornaments that all have a canine theme, combining the best of the holidays with the seasonal appropriateness of the summer months.
As most of you know, Dresden ornaments are made of cardboard, finely pressed in molds and then hand assembled and painted by cottage industry workers in Germany between the years of 1890 and 1920 approximately. Their intricacy and attention to detail bely the fact that they are made of such a humble material.
Considered, by many, to be the most beautiful of all antique Christmas collectibles, they come in a variety of shapes and subject matters. You will find them painted in realistic colorings as well as in gold and silver. While never extremely popular with the American consumer, they are difficult to find and a wonder to behold when you do so!
Enjoy the summer months and check in regularly for updates!
